Departing from Kaikōura Helicopters’ stunning beachfront helipads, your adventure begins with sweeping views of Kaikōura township, dramatically wedged between the South Pacific Ocean and the Kaikōura Ranges.

Soar over the Kaikōura Peninsula and track south along the rugged coastline. Keep an eye on the ocean below – the area is known for Sperm Whales, sometimes spotted close to shore.

Fly over the winding Hundalees Hills and the picturesque Mt Beautiful Vineyard before landing at the Hurunui River to board your jet boat for the next stage of the adventure.

With Energy Jet, owned and operated by local fifth-generation farmer Tim Loughnan, you’ll experience a thrilling 30-minute return journey up the spectacular Hurunui River Gorge. Climb aboard their late-model Kwikkraft jet boat as Tim expertly navigates shallow braids, dramatic canyons, and boulder fields at exhilarating speeds – complete with 360° spins and drifts.

Between heart-pumping thrills, pause to soak up the scenery while learning about the rich history of the Hurunui River and North Canterbury. The Hurunui is the smallest volume river commercially jet boated in Canterbury, offering a truly unique ride through a mix of shallow waters, sheer cliffs, and untouched landscapes.

After your jet boating adventure, re-board your helicopter for a scenic return flight north via the Hurunui River mouth, following the coastline back to Kaikōura.

Weather dependent

Minimum per-person fares are required for flights to depart, or why not choose to private charter the helicopter for guaranteed departure.

Infants aged 0 to 2 years old fly free of charge and must be seated on a paying adult's lap.

Prices increase yearly on the 1st September until the 31st August
